This is typically the time cruises are less booked and you can find a cheaper price. A Disney cruise is amazing any time of year, but especially during spooky season. If you’re a fan of Halloween, Disney, and cruising, then you’ll likely find that Halloween on the High Seas is worth the extra cost for you and your family. This special event offers a wide range of activities and experiences that are only available during the Halloween season. From trick-or-treating and character meet-and-greets to themed parties and spooky décor, what’s not to love. In addition to these activities, you’ll also be treated to holiday-themed foods, decorations, and other events throughout the ship.
What other Halloween activities are there?

From our perspective, the Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise would’ve been better with a holiday-themed deck party, substantive stage show, daytime entertainment, themed menus & desserts, scavenger hunt, and more decorations. It doesn’t sound like Halloween on the High Seas has any of this, either. Aboard the Disney Wish, guests will witness the debut of an all-new Pumpkin Tree in the “Cinderella”-inspired Grand Hall.
These Are the BEST Times to Book Your Disney Cruise
Because the day can hold as many, or occasionally fewer, Pirate-themed activities as it does Halloween ones, it can be exhausting for those who want to do it all. Halloween on the High Seas means all sorts of spirited special events, along with the many typical activities that are available on a regular Disney cruise. Cruising with Disney during spooky season can even mean double the fun, as many of these spine-tingling sailings also include the ever-popular Pirate Night in their itinerary.

You’ll find no shortage of photo opportunities on a Disney cruise. And with everyone all dressed up for Halloween with nowhere to go except around the ship, it’s the perfect time to strike a pose. For the ultimate spine-chilling experience, consider decorating inside your room, too. If you don’t mind having to set it up, BYOD (bring your own decorations) and save some cash. Or, splurge and arrange to have Disney decorate your room for you.

This post shares all of the news, plus quick thoughts from Sarah’s experience during last year’s DCL spook season event. Kurt is a former Disneyland Cast Member and seasoned explorer and is your trusted guide to the world of theme park travel. If he isn’t found trying the newest treats in Disneyland, Kurt enjoys relaxing at home with his dog Sam and playing video games with friends in his free time. It is tradition to decorate your stateroom door for any Disney Cruise.
This was probably one of the lowest crowd events in terms of entertainment, but that could also be because nights were really cold and most people had retired to their rooms at that point. There are always extras available to add a bit of festivity to your stateroom! I surprised my daughter with an onboard gift specific to the season, which costs extra and comes fully assembled in your room upon arrival. Ours included a fleece blanket, pillow, trick or treat bag, and glow-in-the-dark ghosts hanging from our ceiling. During our sailing, the cost of this onboard gift was $75, but the prices do vary from year to year. That is a little bit high, but since we don’t tend to go crazy with souvenir spending, I just factored into the cost of goodies we may have wanted to splurge onboard.
With a tiny handful of exceptions, all the holiday perks are included with the price of your cruise. Prices related more to the date of the sailings rather than the holiday overlay. For example, sailings during the first two weeks of December include all the Christmas decor, music, food, and more, but the prices are very reasonable. Rates go up as more children have their holiday school vacations and the cruises that actually include Christmas can be quite pricey.
When you step onto the ship, you’ll find Halloween decorations in a variety of spots, like jack-o-lantern stickers on portholes and pumpkin garlands around the atrium. If you are on a Halloween cruise but not sailing on 10/31, your cruise will have a certain day when these activities take place. There were two different parties and trick or treat times to choose from. We attended one and felt like we saw the show, got the candy, we were good.
There were similar activities in areas for kids, and Halloween movies were shown at the theaters. Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party is a costume party with trick-or-treat trails, including candy and long lines. Close your eyes and imagine sailing on a Disney Cruise Line ship. The smell of the ocean, the light breeze, the warm sun…amazing. The entertainment staff opens the party up with some dancing and then games around the room. The games are really hard to get to because it’s so crowded, so we opted to just stay in our spots waiting for the characters to come out.
For our cruise, my sister, sister-in-law and I DisneyBounded as the Sanderson Sisters, so we made it a point to meet Minnie, Daisy and Clarabelle during their very first appearance. Without a doubt, the pantomimed conversations we had over our shared costumes were some of the most magical moments of our cruise. Then, it’s time to light the tree’s jack-o-lanterns, which continue to glow for the rest of the trip, making for a can’t-miss photo backdrop. This dazzling display sets the tone for the rest of the cruise’s Halloween festivities and shouldn’t be missed.
